Planning a safari in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve? Knowing the Tadoba safari rules helps you avoid entry issues, protect wildlife and enjoy a responsible jungle experience.

Tadoba is a protected natural habitat. Visitors must follow forest regulations and instructions from authorised guides, drivers and officials. Violations can result in fines, legal action or removal from the reserve.

Entry and Exit Timings

Safari timings vary by season and gate. Arrive well before your booked slot; late entry is not permitted. The official portal states that exit-time extensions will not be allowed.

Core-gate timings generally range from 5:30–6:30 AM for morning entry and 2:00–3:00 PM for evening entry, depending on the season. Buffer gates may also offer a noon safari.

It is advisable to check the official TATR safari website for timings applicable to your gate and date. Core gates are listed as closed on Tuesdays and buffer gates on Wednesdays.

Original ID and Safari Ticket

Carry your valid booking ticket and original photo ID. Photocopies are not accepted for entry.

  • Your ID details must match the information submitted during booking.
  • Indian visitors can use an accepted ID such as Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, PAN card or driving licence.
  • Foreign visitors must carry their original passport.
  • Keep your ticket and ID available for checks by forest officials during the safari.

Bookings are non-transferable. Incorrect details, fake passes or using another person's booking can result in denied entry and legal action.

Authorised Vehicles and Guides

Entry is permitted only in vehicles registered and authorised by the reserve. Follow your guide's instructions, remain within the vehicle's permitted capacity and do not drive on closed trails or outside designated tourism areas.

The official portal's cruiser service is restricted to eligible Chandrapur district residents at specified gates. Check eligibility before booking.

Speed and Wildlife Distance Rules

The current official TATR portal specifies these limits:

  • Maximum vehicle speed: 20 km/h.
  • Distance between safari vehicles: At least 50 metres.
  • Distance from wildlife: At least 20 metres.
  • Maximum time at a sighting location: 15 minutes.

Do not pressure your driver to speed, overtake vehicles or approach an animal for a better photograph. Follow the guide's directions and allow wildlife to move naturally.

No Shouting, Music or Horns

Shouting, blowing horns and playing music are prohibited inside the reserve. Loud noises disturb wildlife and other visitors.

Speak quietly when necessary, keep noise to a minimum and never shout or make sounds to attract an animal.

Never Feed, Tease or Chase Wildlife

Feeding, teasing, chasing, luring or approaching animals too closely is prohibited. Do not throw food or objects towards wildlife or ask your driver to follow an animal off the permitted route.

Keep your hands and body inside the vehicle. Remember that tiger sightings are never guaranteed, and wildlife welfare must come first.

Plastic and Litter Restrictions

The official portal describes Tadoba as a litter-free zone and states that plastic products are not allowed inside the park. Visitors must carry their litter outside the reserve.

Do not throw wrappers, bottles, tissues or other waste on safari trails. Since the published restriction is broad, check with TATR before carrying any plastic container or packaged item.

Mobile Phones and Electronic Devices

The official rules prohibit mobile-phone or similar electronic-gadget use that causes distraction or disturbs the reserve's tranquillity. The published fine is ₹5,000.

Avoid using your phone during the safari and follow current instructions from forest staff. If bringing a camera or other equipment, verify applicable rules and charges before your visit.

Smoking, Fire, Alcohol and Other Prohibited Items

TATR's published rules prohibit:

  • Smoking or lighting fires inside the reserve.
  • Carrying or consuming alcohol and non-vegetarian food inside the reserve.
  • Entering under the influence of alcohol, narcotic or psychotropic substances.
  • Carrying firearms.
  • Bringing pets into the reserve.

When uncertain about an item, check with the official authority before your safari.

Can You Get Out of the Vehicle?

Visitors must remain inside their safari vehicle except at specifically designated places. Do not step out for photographs, approach wildlife on foot or move between vehicles. Follow your guide's directions at all times.

What Happens If You Break the Rules?

Violations can attract fines or legal action. Forest authorities may expel tourists or vehicles for misconduct, including disturbing wildlife, feeding animals or obstructing their natural movement. Entry can also be refused for invalid documents or bookings.
